01. O táxon exótico causou reduções no desempenho de indivíduos na biota nativa?
Resposta
Sim
Mecanismo(s)
(1) Competição
Evidência
Competição: A survey of three invaded sites found that in 100% of Tubastraea–Mussismilia contacts, Mussismilia showed damage when at distances of < 5 cm from the aliens, but the effect was not reciprocal. Both aliens caused necrosis to the near side of the native colony dead areas were usually overgrown by sponges or crustose coralline algae, and sometimes even by Tubastraea recruits. Most colonies developed deformations at the contact zone. The evidence suggests that the two azooxanthellates are competitively dominant and can reduce or exclude the native coral. This has implications that go farther than local exclusion or extinction: the competitive removal of the native coral reduces production, so ecosystem functions may be compromised (Creed 2006).
It has been reported to cause necrosis and deformation of native reef-forming coral species (Santos et al., 2013).

Referências adicionais sobre impactos
Although T. coccinea has become naturalized on some reefs in the Caribbean, at present these exotic corals have had only a minimal impact on reefs and banks in the northern GOM and the Florida Keys (but see Fig. 2). Whether these exotic corals will compete in earnest for available space and become dominant features on reefs of the Flower Garden Banks or the named reefs in the Florida Keys and other natural habitats, however, remains a question for the future.
