\"E. camaldulensis is known to have allelopathic compounds that inhibit interspecific competition and facilitate population success (Colloff 2014, Hirsch et al. 2019). As such, these and other chemical compounds, some of which have known anti-microbial properties (Salem et al. 2016), likely inhibit microbial activities on the leaves, reducing their rate of decay. The reduced microbial and detritivore activity on E. camaldulensis leaves in the present study high- lights the potential for altered biogeochemical dynamics in aquatic ecosystems where invasive river red gum become more prevalent. It is also possible that detritivores and microbes adapted to break down this invasive species are not present this system.\" (Wasserman et al., 2020) \"In general, uninvaded sites had slightly higher total C, N, P and K concentrations compared with lightly, moderately and heavily invaded sites, though the differences were not significant. Our results support those of Aweto and Moleele (2005) and Castro-Díez et al. (2011) who also found no significant differences in nutrient concentrations between native litter and that beneath Eucalyptus in Botswana (plantation and savannah woodland) and Spain (in a riparian forest), respectively.\" (Terefai et al., 2014)

\"Soils collected beneath E. camaldulensis stands signif- icantly (F1:3 15.08, P 0.001) reduced germination of only one native species, namely A. karroo by 16%, but enhanced germination of the other three species. The inhibitory effect of E. camaldulensis aqueous treatments on germination and seedling growth of some native species suggested that tissues of E. camaldulensis were allelopathic.\" (Ruwanza et al., 2015). \"The species often occurs in monospecific stands, due to the allelopathic compounds in its leaves which impede the recruitment of other species, and because of the unique ability of established plants to tolerate both floods and droughts (Colloff, 2014). In some areas, however, it can form mixed stands with other riparian species (McDonald et al., 2009).\" (Hirsch et al., 2019)
