Monitored species

Confirmed invasive alien species and potentially invasive alien species relevant to prevention, early detection, and management in Brazil.

What does inclusion in this catalogue mean?

Inclusion does not by itself mean that a species is established, invasive, or causing impacts in Brazil. SIGEEI also monitors species present only in cultivation, captivity, or other contained conditions, as well as species that are invasive elsewhere, absent from Brazil, and relevant to prevention.

Status in Brazil. The harmonized list of confirmed invasive species follows Zenni et al. (2024) and may receive versioned curatorial revisions.

Recognition in federal protected areas. Species–protected-area relationships recognized by ICMBio follow Ordinance No. 510/2025; this local recognition does not automatically change national status.

Occurrences. Records consolidated by Sühs et al. (2025), GBIF and Instituto Hórus (2026). The National Database of Invasive Alien Species provides explicitly non-native species and occurrences, preserved with citation and provenance.

Impacts, pathways, and management. EICAT assessments, pathways from Ziller et al. (2026), local status assessments, and management actions are independent layers linked to the taxon without being conflated.

Taxonomy uses GBIF as its operational reference; discrepancies, manual decisions, and original sources remain auditable in the species profile.
