Avaliação de impactos

Há evidência de impacto ambiental?Sim

1. Redução no desempenho de indivíduos da biota nativa

Resposta: Sim

Mecanismos selecionados: (6) Envenenamento / toxicidade,(10) Impacto físico no ecossistema

Evidências por mecanismo

Competição

Grevillea robusta trees always compete for soil water and nutrients with any vegetation growing below and near the canopies of G. robusta as the tree has shallow roots (Smith et al., 1999). (Marikhele, 2018)

Envenenamento / toxicidade

G. robusta drops much leaf and fruit litter (Gilman and Watson, 1993). Its leaves produce an allelopathic substance that inhibits the establishment and development of native species. G. robusta also causes changes in patterns of nutrient cycling (ISSG, 2015). ( Global Invasive Species Database (2021) Species profile: Grevillea robusta. Impacto físico no ecossistema

Densa serrapilheira formada sob as copas dificulta a preservação e a germinação de sementes de espécies nativas. (Marikhele, 2018)

Impacto estrutural no ecossistema

Grevillea robusta has characteristics that suppress indigenous tree species (i.e. dense litter and shade below its canopies). Grevillea robusta has shown evidence of suppressing indigenous species. The tree has been widely planted as an ornamental and a windbreak. The plant is a good competitor for resources with big canopies shading other trees. Trees of G. robusta can survive fires once they have reached 6─10 cm in basal diameter (i.e. 5 years of age) and resprout after being cut but will not survive herbicides. Grevillea robusta trees are producing viable seeds which can be dispersed far from parent trees and into riparian areas. (Marikhele, 2018); Smith (1998) reports allelopathic effects that restrict the growth of other plants including other individuals of G. robusta. Webb et al. (1967) considered that an auto-allelopathic compound associated with the living roots of G. robusta was responsible for the poor performance of plantations in Australia. The good growth of many successful plantations and woodlots in Africa suggests that in most plantations such an effect is minor, if present at all. Henderson (2001) regarded G. robusta as a potential transformer of habitats. (https://www.cabi.org/isc/datasheet/25866#toimpactSummary. Acesso em 26/04/21)
