(Motschulsky, 1854)

CATEGORIA EICAT: MODERATE (MO) - MODERADO

Parasitismo: Larvae of A. glabripennis feed in .24 species of hardwood trees in the Orient and Palearctic (Yang et al. 1995). In its native China, it prefers Salix spp. and Populusspp. (Li and Wu 1993), whereas in the United States Acer spp. are most commonly attacked (Haack et al. 1997). Other hardwood species are also attacked and several new hosts have been documentedin North America. This tendency to attack and use a wide variety of host tree species appears to be a characteristic of A. glabripennis.(Nowak et al., 2001)

(5) Parasitismo
Evidência
Parasitismo: Anoplophora glabripennis bores into the main trunk, branches, and exposed tree roots of both young and old trees. It is one of the most serious pests on poplar (Populus spp.) in China (Li and Wu 1993, Luo and Li 1999). As trees are repeatedly attacked, infested trees are killed within several years of initial attack.(Nowak et al., 2001)

Comentários e informações adicionais
Although records of A. glabripennis in China are known from the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912), this beetle has only caused extensive damage subsequent to the 1980s (Yang, 2005). In China alone, A. glabripennis causes an estimated annual loss of more than 10 billion Chinese Yuan (approximately $1.5 billion), which is equal to approximately 12% of the total economic losses caused by forest pests and diseases (H.J. Su, personal communication). Based on information concerning the current distribution, biology, and economic impact of A. glabripennis in Asia and North America, together with recent European interceptions, there is a significant risk that A. glabripennis could become established and cause damage to important forest and fruit tree species all over the world (MacLeod et al., 2002). Based on this information, A. glabripennis is now considered a dangerous quarantine pest in North America and the European Community (USDAAPHIS, 1998; EPPO, 2004). Anoplophora glabripennis has an enormous destructive potential because it attacks healthy trees and spends most of its life as a larva, boring inside tree trunks and large branches. This compromises the tree’s vascular system, causes severe damage to the wood’s structural properties, and eventually leads to the death of the attacked trees (Cavey et al., 1998). In Chicago and New York City, efforts to control or eradicate the exotic A. glabripennis populations have led to the removal and destruction of all trees having signs of A. glabripennis attack (Haack et al., 1997). These eradication efforts already cost many millions of dollars annually. The estimated maximum potential national urban impact of A. glabripennis in the U.S.A is a value loss of $669 billion, with tree mortality of approximately 30%, and a reduction of total canopy cover of approximately 35% (Nowak et al., 2001). (Hu et al., 2009)
